Happy New Year!

Well, here we go again with yet another year. The optimists will cling to the irrational hope that this year will be better than last year, while we pessimists realists know the truth, that the best we can hope for is that the decline will merely continue at a snail's pace.

In looking around for an appropriate video to mark the beginning of the new year, I found this outstanding old Louis CK bit on Being Broke, and other related stuff.

Enjoy!

  1. Great blog. I'm a big fan of Louis CK and Bill Hicks and a student of Peak Oil, Austrian Economics, and sustainability. Keep up the good work!

  2. This is wonderful stuff, "you gotta pay the bank when your broke". At my most broke about 4 years ago I had to go out and busk to rise some money to put in the bank. When a standing order came due on my bank account and I was so broke that I had no money to meet it, they charged me a 12 euro 50 cent penalty. A few of these and I was down almost 50 euro, even less than flat broke, I was minus 50.

It's mad but he's right when your flat broke, the financial system will fine you and drive you deeper into financial shit.

Good call Bill, an excellent first post for the new year. Dark, satirical comedy maybe a trend to watch in 2012, we are certainly going to need our sense of humor in the coming 12 months.

  3. @Anon @ iwe - thanks! We'll have to see how dark it gets this year, and whether that darkness finally manages to penetrate the mainstream.
