Start with a dozen or so candidates, and have one voted off by the audience every week until November.John Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06174164041495441429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3862216000300765627.post-18050064862846963372011-08-26T19:51:32.627-04:002011-08-26T19:51:32.627-04:00@bmerson--I like the way you think. :)@bmerson--I like the way you think. :)Bill Hickshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17551954408189665078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3862216000300765627.post-88014713221296914922011-08-26T17:07:21.751-04:002011-08-26T17:07:21.751-04:00Since we seem to be on this path anyway, I'd l...Since we seem to be on this path anyway, I'd like to propose that we reformat elections as follows to improve their media appeal.

First, primaries will be replaced by a series of televised tournaments conducted using the format of the World Series of Poker. Any entrant with the required fee can enter. We are a "democracy" after all. Of course, the required fee should be something appropriately garish to weed out the pikers, say $1M. After all, I mean there's democracy and then there's democracy.

Once the parties have settled on the candidates, the general election shall be conducted using a series of televised events based roughly on some combination of American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and Survivor (or, even better, UFC or at least American Gladiators!).

I feel these two events could easily be stretched out over 3 or perhaps 4 complete television seasons, and would be ratings power houses. Advertising revenues would go through the roof! All such money should, of course, go to the people who make this all possible... major corporations.

Seriously, how could this miss? And the results? It seems to me they would be at least as valid as what we're currently getting. And, oh, so much more fun to watch.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3862216000300765627.post-87733045929106401792011-08-26T10:28:21.819-04:002011-08-26T10:28:21.819-04:00The movies often impart
