And then the symbol ursurps the thing itself.

I'm not sure what to think of Che, as reading about him I can see what he was trying to achieve... Land reform and literacy are certainly good things. And he was right about America. But he also helped put in the Castro regime, which was and is effectively dictatorship just like the Batista regime. And he ended up running the firing squads, something that I can understand but not condone.

It seems a rule that fundamental change is undermined by the need for force, which creates a mirror version of the oppression that precedes it.

It seems Che is seen as a hero or a villian with no respect to what he actually did or why. And politically... He's just a symbol, a brand. As a symbol, he has no content. He's an empty box into which people can pour their hopes and/or fears.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3862216000300765627.post-79357476334089166082015-02-13T16:54:04.896-05:002015-02-13T16:54:04.896-05:00Would really like to know what the Che Guevara bul...Would really like to know what the Che Guevara bullshit actually was. Sad for you friend, sad for his kid, and sad for the teacher.
Sad for the country, but with the climate skewing ever screwier, politics will be even more of a sideshow.centralscrewtinizerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03404913280254786506noreply@blogger.com
